Installing carpet can be hard on your knees and back and you should be prepared to take some time to get the job done. Installing your own wall to wall carpet may sound daunting but with the right tools and some perseverance you can certainly install carpet yourself. Clean and prep the floor. Don t install tackless strips across thresholds or doorways.

After the carpet is attached along the first wall trim the excess from the edge using a wall carpet trimmer. A good way to determine that is to place your fingers between the wall and the piece of tack strip. The tacks on the strips are sharp and could poke through the carpet and hurt your feet. Nail the strips 1 2 from the wall.

Keep the tool s shoe pressed tightly against the carpeting and keep the carpet tight against the baseboard as you guide it along the wall. Cut lengths of tackless strip to fit each wall around the perimeter of the room. The tacks on the strips are sharp and could poke through the carpet and hurt your feet. Cut the tackless strips to size with a strip cutter or heavy snips image 1.

If you have carpet already in place be prepared to remove it before moving on. Nail the strips 1 2 from the wall image 2. Install tack strip around the entire perimeter of the room making sure to maintain a 3 8 gulley between the tack strip and the baseboard.
